DISTRO ACTION 1 - ALICE COHEN "SKY FLOWERS" CD

We're going to be fleshing out the OESB SHOPPE with some additional distro items - many of which will be releases by OESB artists that were self-released or are on other labels. For starters here is a cd from 2008 by Alice Cohen on her own Crinoline imprint. While her OESB l.p. "Walking Up Walls" was a home-recorded affair with countless layers of fog & fuzz, "Sky Flowers" occupies a completely different soundworld as it was a studio recording with rich, clean production. HERE is an excellent article and interview published in Philadelphia's City Paper at the time of the release. And below is her spooky self-animated video for "Black Pepper" - the first song off of "Sky Flowers".

CARLOS ANTONIO - EL HOMBRE ORQUESTA - LIMA, PERU

CARLOS ANTONIO from OESB // FUTURE SOUND on Vimeo.

Olde English Spelling Bee is excited to announce a partnership with the MassTropicas label which is run out of Western Massachusetts by Michael Pigott.

Michael has been dedicated to hunting down musical obscurities in Peru and has some very exciting projects planned this year for his label MassTropicas. During one of his many trips to Peru he was introduced to street musician Carlos Antonio by local photographer Tunchi and arranged an informal recording session from which this video was made. Also worth checking out is Tunchi's awesome website of Lima street photographs here: http://www.limafotolibre.com/

Here's some background info from Michael:
"Carlos Antonio is known as El Hombre Orquesta (translation: one man band) and he has been playing on the streets for 24 years. He is originally from Chiclayo which is eight hours north of Lima. He plays his favorite cumbia and salsa songs from Peru and all over Latin America. The trumpet or kazoo like sound you hear is his "plastic trumpet" which is a soda bottle cut in half with a piece of plastic fashioned over the top with a rubberband. I recorded these songs last year in Lima on May 15th, we picked him up and brought him to a practice spot halfway across the city in a taxi. He played for an hour straight. Enjoy."

OESB will be the exclusive distributor of the Carlos Antonio cassette release on MassTropicas from these sessions. There were 100 cassettes professionally duplicated - half of these were given to Carlos in Peru and the remaining 50 copies will be available in the new distribution section of the OESB webstore -
