WORRIED SOLDIERS

The two new OESB lp's are now available digitally via Boomkat, iTunes, eMusic, Amazon, Other Music, & most other digital outlets... The records will ship beginning Friday, September 3rd & will be in most stores soon.

The aforementioned lp's are the debuts by Autre Ne Veut "S/T" and Big Troubles "Worry" -- a stream of the Big Troubles lp can be checked out over at their Bandcamp page.

We received some very high praise from Boomkat for both albums - their write-ups are quoted below - and that's followed by the two newest videos from these albums.

"Olde English Spelling Bee is one of those labels you can implicitly trust to provide you with the most brilliantly weird music. Their latest missive is a self titled shocker from Autre Ne Veut, a moocher from the same circles as Oneohtrix Point Never and all those weirdo Brooklyn types with an uncanny line in subtly skewed pop queerness. Seriously, this is one of the strangest, most jarringly unique records of the year, and we love it. At heart it's an incredible pop album with traces of Prince, Prefab Sprout and Erasure at its core, but each melody and harmony is delivered with an off-key sleight of hand that really plays on your preconceptions and experience of classic synth pop. There's definite nods to the soundtracks of John Hughes movies and the like, but it's perhaps more like The Breakfast Club score remade by the Troma company for some secret pay-per-view internet channel. Autre Ne Veut has possibly made one of our favourite albums this year and we urge you to investigate without delay. Essential!" - Boomkat

"This immense new album from Big Troubles follows on from a great four-song EP for the Olde English Spelling Bee singles club, featuring the New Jersey fuzz-pop project bejewelled with pop hooks and spurts of brain-scorching noise. There's an abundance of blistering C86-style pop nuggets on here, from the distortion-surfing 'Bite Yr Tongue' to the euphorically hooked-up 'Freudian Slips'. There's an overwhelmingly fizzy, treble-some recording style here which imbues the whole thing with a hazy, nostalgic quality that reminds us of everything from My Bloody Valentine to The Jesus and Mary Chain to Dinosaur Jr at their very peak - making for one of the standout lo-fi pop records of the year bar none. Very highly recommended." - Boomkat

The ever-amazing Alice Cohen has been super busy for the last couple months putting together her first solo art show for the Live With Animals gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The show is titled "Mirror Moves For Private Eyes" and will feature paintings, collages, installations, and a brand new 15 minute long animated video that she also created a soundtrack for (an excerpt from the video is below).

RANGERS "DEERFIELD VILLAGE" FAN VIDEO

Rangers // Deerfield Village from Wooden Lens on Vimeo.

Just ran across this fan video for Rangers "Deerfield Village" - the opening track off of the Suburban Tours l.p. -- it's been up for a month and I had no idea of its existence -- these fan video creators should give the record label a heads-up when they make something... it could always lead to some work...

Below is the official video for "Deerfield Village">>>

We're getting pretty low on copies of this record but there's still some time to nab it over at the OESB SHOPPE

new Julian Lynch video & NYC show tonite!!

Julian Lynch : A Day at the Racetrack from Ezra Ewen on Vimeo.

New video for "A Day at the Racetrack" from Julian Lynch's "Mare" lp. Directed by Ezra Ewen. Here's his description: “All of the footage was shot on 8mm film by my father (UW alumn) in 1967-69, my cousin Paul Ewen (also UW alumn) in 2001 and myself earlier this summer”. UW = University of Wisconsin. Madison represents.

Anyone in the NYC area should try to catch Julian's special set tonite at The Delancey in the Lower East Side (168 Delancey) -- he'll be playing songs from his albums with a full band backing him - Evan Brody from Family Portrait on guitar, Ian Drennan from Big Troubles on bass, and Sam Franklin from Big Troubles/Fluffy Lumbers on drums... He had the same line-up on Friday night at Glasslands and I'm still trying to wrap my head around how phenomenal that set was. Fortunately there was a film crew rolling tape so it should be entering the worldwide electronic memory bank soon.

It's a free show on the downstairs level - Julian is scheduled for 10:30 - opening acts are The Binary Marketing Show & Sunsheds and also Christina and Emma from the awesome Two Flies on Grey Velvet blog will be DJ-ing..
